APL-UW has developed two tools to verify MM5 ensemble model forecasts over the Pacific Northwest: the Mesoscale Verification Tool (MVT) and the Automated Mesoscale Verfication Tool (AutoMVT). MVT allows the user to compare two fields with a high degree of interaction; AutoMVT allows the comparison of several fields with limited interaction. Both tools are based upon the same underlying software, so the results from one tool are the same as those from the other.

MVT is a Java Web Start application which runs client side. Each time MVT is launched, Web Start checks for and downloads software updates so the user always has the latest release.
