Warren Fox         Senior Electrical Engineer         EIS Department         Applied Physics Laboratory         University of Washington	APL-UW is supporting an environmentally adaptive sonar system technology demonstration through the development and integration of software modules. We are working with Planning Systems Incorporated (PSI) to incorporate technologies developed at the University of Washington in an automated sonar controller. As the system engineering lead, APL-UW is developing the environmental sensing and awareness capability including interfaces to shipboard LANs (Local Area Networks) for organic METOC (Meteorology and Oceanography) sensor information; the sonar environmental parameters extraction system; arbitration and assimilation of bottom properties and incorporation into a dynamic database; database serving of resident environmental information; and interfaces to environmental displays.
