APL-UW is working with the prime contractor, Insightful Corporation, and the government sponsor on all aspects of blind demodulation, including signal detection, adaptive filtering methods for blind equalization and pulse-shape identification, timing recovery, modulation classification, and demodulation. We are extending and refining our earlier work on detection and identification of low-probability-of-intercept (LPI) signals, focusing on direct-sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) and frequency-hopped spread spectrum (FHSS).

We are investigating maximum-likelihood and other methods for modulation classification, including both digital modulation formats such as QAM, FSK, and analog modulation formats such as various forms of amplitude modulation (e.g, single and double sideband, virtual sideband, etc.), and frequency/phase modulation.
